Being a full-time sound engineer, a large amount of my work has been mixing FOH for bands in many different spaces and venues. After recording a band live in cafe drummonds I found a certain passion for capturing performances.
Gigs can usually be recorded easily – but mixing it is the interesting part. Portraying the feeling of the gig in the record can be tricky so I guess that’s where I come in.
Recently working with AMF (Promotion) we have been putting on “Live Session” gigs with an audience and a focus on recording. We are continuously looking for bands to come and be a part of these sessions so please get in touch! You’ll find recordings of some of these sessions below!
This production was somewhere between a studio mix and a live recording. All performance was played live, as a band, in a controlled studio setting. The band asked me just to setup and record the performance as they wanted to mix it themselves. I still did a mix of my own for my favourite of the tracks… Have a wee listen here!
After mixing live for The Sun Day for a year or 2 and helping produce their EP “Spacial Awareness” we decided to record their Drummonds headline in 2024.
A hell of a performance by the boys and an electric atmosphere gave way to the album now available on Spotify! Take a listen!
As part of the AMF Live sessions, The Tempilstiks came in to headline and gave a blistering performance! With a simple setup crafted to make the recording sound as raw and ruckus as possible, this is what came of it. Have a listen!
Another one from the AMF Live sessions, Familiar Enemies travelled down from Inverness to give us this fiery performance. This was a lot of fun to work on!
